About Us
The journey of Murrays started at a small office space near the High Court of Madras on 10th February 1927 by Shri. S Vedantam. Over the next few years, Shri. Vendantam and his brother Shri. S Rajam worked tirelessly & firmly established Murrays as the premier auction house in Madras.
During the initial years, Murrays focussed on auctioning immovable property and provided invaluable service to the Courts of Madras. Within three years of establishment, Shri. Rajam opened the auction rooms of Murrays at Mount Road. Weekly Sunday auctions of artifacts and quality, contemporary furniture were conducted at the auction rooms. The Sunday auctions have been a tradition at Murrays ever since, which continues till date.
From its humble beginnings, Murrays has grown leaps & bounds over the past eight decades and is by far the oldest and the biggest auction house in South India.
At present, Mr. Hemant Srivatsa a Mechanical Engineer and M.B.A by qualification and Mr. S. Sujan Gangadhar, also a Mechanical Engineer, are the partners of the firm. Between them, the two partners have over 40 years experience as auctioneers and have conducted well over ten thousand sales.
Today, Murrays is synonymous with auctions in South India. Murrays has, over the years, earned a reputation of being efficient, fair & just. The performance of Murrays in the last five financial years with a sales turnover of around ₹ 125 crores annually is a reflection of the strength of Murrays in the field of Auctioneering.
We regularly carry out valuation and disposal, by auction and tender sales, of used machines and vehicles, industrial process and maintenance scrap, unused spares and stock, unclaimed cargo, office equipment, furniture, household appliances, handicrafts, curios, land and building and jewellery.
Murrays is probably the first and only auction house to have designed customised software, which handles the entire process of sales by auctions and tenders, including post sale transactions.
In 2013, our auction rooms were relocated from its original location behind the LIC building on Anna Salai (Mount Road) to Mandaveli.
In 2015, we have returned to Anna Salai, near the Gemini Circle, to be centrally located and cater to the ever expanding limits of the city of Chennai. In June 2014, our Administrative office, along with the Industrial Disposal and Property & Recovery Sales Departments, has been relocated to a larger and more convenient facility in Mylapore.
In 2016, we launched our customised path breaking online auction platform to serve the needs of all sectors across the country. The portal has been designed with our domain knowledge of the auction process and has received excellent reviews from buyers and sellers alike. Murrays will continue to persevere to bring path breaking innovations to the sale process and continue to be a leader in the auction space in India.
